At Larga, we provide a home away from home for guests from the Northwest Territories and Nunavut who are in Edmonton for medical care. Our kitchen plays a vital role in this mission — delivering nourishing, home-cooked meals with care, respect, and cultural understanding.
We’re looking for a dependable, team-oriented Kitchen Helper to support our kitchen team in preparing and serving meals to our guests. If you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and take pride in helping others, this could be the right fit for you.
What You’ll Do
- Assist with basic food prep (e.g., wash, peel, chop vegetables, prepare sandwiches, bag lunches, salads, etc.)
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils regularly throughout the day
- Clean all kitchen surfaces, equipment, fridges, freezers, and floors
- Refill food stations, snacks, fruit, and beverages for guests
- Dispose of garbage and recycling properly; maintain clean waste areas
- Monitor and record fridge and freezer temperatures and report any issues
- Support food safety and hygiene protocols at all times
- Notify supervisor of low stock, equipment concerns, or special guest needs
- Participate in scheduled deep-cleaning tasks (e.g., appliances, cupboards, under counters)
- Work alongside cooks to help ensure timely and smooth meal service
- Assist guests when needed with kindness and professionalism
- Complete time sheets and communication logs accurately
- Attend staff and safety meetings
- Follow all Larga policies and procedures
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in a kitchen setting (food prep or dishwashing preferred)
- Able to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, walking, and completing repetitive tasks
- Able to read, write, and speak English fluently
- Must pass an annual medical exam and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Self-motivated, dependable, and respectful of guest privacy and needs
Preferred (but not required):
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures/languages
- Food Safe, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, or willingness to complete
